Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of hair—thin, sterile disposable needles into points on the body that have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points lie along channels on the body called meridians. Vital energy, called Qi (chi), flows through these meridians and serves to balance, energize, and nourish the body, as well as prevent disease. The smooth flow of Qi is associated with good health. Emotions, stress, trauma, diet, overwork, and environmental factors disrupt the flow of Qi, which may eventually lead to pain and/or disease. Treatments influence the flow of Qi in the meridians, helping to restore balance and harmony. Treatments are generally painless; however, you may feel a dull heaviness or tingling around the point or even above or below the involved meridian. This temporary sensation is called ‘de Qi’, it is quite normal and in most cases, desired. Contrary to the common belief that acupuncture is solely used to relieve pain, it is known to affect a vast spectrum of health concerns.
